Drop-Top Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP 550-2 Enters Production

To say that the Lamborghini Gallardo is merely a flagship model would be a severe understatement. The Italian supercar features more variants than most competing automakers have in their entire new-model lineup. Now Lamborghini is preparing to add one more spinoff into the mix, as the 2012 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP 550-2 enters the realm of production.

What differentiates this Gallardo from the rest? While convertible models aren't uncommon to see in the Gallardo lineup, they are when rear-wheel drive is involved. In fact, combining the two features is something that rarely been done since the supercar's introduction in 2003. Furthermore, the basis for the vehicle's design is the 550-2 Valentino Balboni Edition, of which only 250 units were manufactured.

When can we expect to learn more concrete details and specs? Right now, all signs are pointing at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, which is happening right now. Lamborghini Palm Beach, located at 2345 Okeechobee Boulevard West Palm Beach, FL 33409, wouldn't be surprised if the vehicle's pricing and availability are revealed at the show either, so make sure to stay tuned if the rear-wheel drive Lambo has caught your eye.
