Watch Lamborghini break Nürburgring records

Lamborghini Nürburgring full onboard record videos

Lamborghini models have taken more than their fair share of positions on the production car leaderboards for lap times at the Nürburgring, and the best part about every record attempt is that each official record from Lamborghini comes with a video. Through the wonder of YouTube, we can watch all the Lamborghini Nürburgring full onboard record videos that Lamborghini has posted.

What was the first Lamborghini Nürburgring record?

If you’ve already started watching the video here, just know that it is far from the first record for Lamborghini, however it is the oldest record attempt to have full onboard video readily available.

The first known record was recorded at 8:09 minutes in 1997 by a Lamborghini Diablo SV which was performed by Sport Auto magazine. With current records, it is difficult to tell how well the Diablo SV ranked at the time. It was certainly fast, and it potentially earned a top spot for its day.

Importance of Nürburgring track records

The Aventador SV or Superveloce was the first official test that Lamborghini conducted at the famous German track, and it made a record for itself in May 2015. This record-setting pace, which you can see here in all its glory, tackled all 154 turns in just 6:59.73 minutes.

Unfortunately for the extreme performance car, it wasn’t quite enough to beat the Porsche 918 Spyder record set in 2013, but it still earned a number 2 spot on the coveted list. Lamborghini would be back soon enough, this time with an entirely different car.

On October 5, 2016, barely over a year since Lamborghini’s last visit to the Nürburgring with the Aventador SV, they were back, and this time with the Huracan Performante. This V10 precision machine hit the track with one goal in mind, dethroning Porsche and taking the top spot. That’s exactly what it did.

With a lap time of 6:52.01 minutes, the Huracan Performante thoroughly thrashed the 918 Spyder’s previous record of 6:56.4 minutes and grabbed the top spot on the Nürburgring leaderboards. Unfortunately, that record would be short-lived.

Just less than a year after the Huracan Performante set the new pace for the infamous German track, Porsche reclaimed the top spot with a Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The Porsche’s time was 6:47.25 and it set the record on September 20, 2017, but Lamborghini wasn’t worried.

Lamborghini engineers had been working in secret on a Nürburgring killer, the Aventador SVJ. Before even unveiling the car officially to the public, they took it to the Nürburgring. Unsurprisingly, it secured the top spot without question with a lap time of 6:44.97 earned on July 26, 2018.
