Not only does the top Aventador S come with AWD standard, but most of the Huracan lineup comes with AWD as well. Of course, the new Urus SSUV or Super Sport Utility Vehicle also comes with an all-wheel-drive system that is more akin to a four-wheel-drive system.

How does four-wheel steering work?

What historical Lamborghini models have all-wheel drive?

We’ve established that the modern Lamborghini lineup has all-wheel drive as a prominent feature, but what about historical models? Has Lamborghini had a long history with AWD? Surprisingly, the answer is yes.

The first Lamborghini model to feature all-wheel drive is not that surprising. It’s the LM002 which debuted in 1986 as the first Lamborghini SUV. It was only 7 years later that this all-wheel-drive technology filtered down into the Lamborghini Diablo.

That’s right, in 1993 the Diablo was available with AWD, and it was a sign of things to come. After the Diablo, the Murcielago and the Gallardo came on the scene. The former had all-wheel drive as standard and the latter offered it as an option, and those models bring us to the modern era of AWD Lamborghini models.

Read More: Compare the Urus against the LM002

Why is all-wheel drive good for a supercar?

All-wheel drive has been a wonderful inclusion to the world of supercars like Lamborghini for multiple reasons. For one, the power of the modern supercar is beyond what two tires can translate to the road. Modern rubber is better but having four powered wheels gives you access to much snappier acceleration, especially from a stop.

The second reason for AWD in a supercar is just as important. A rear-wheel-drive car is great for acceleration, but the power distribution is such that, losing control, especially during acceleration, can be easy.
