How much faster is the new Aventador SVJ than the SV?

Lamborghini Aventador SV vs Aventador SVJ

Do not confuse the new Aventador SVJ with the Aventador SV. They are very different models, and, in many ways, the SVJ is the replacement for the SV. Some of the specs may be similar, but the SVJ is the current Lamborghini out there setting records. Learn more about the differences as we compare the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ vs Aventador SV.

What is the Aventador SV?

For those not yet in the know, it may help if we explain the Aventador SV a little. For starters, SV is actually short for SuperVeloce.

As you may be able to guess, SuperVeloce is Italian for Super-Fast. This model was produced as a coupe from 2015 to 2017 and as a roadster from 2016 to 2017.

Did the Aventador SVJ replace the SV?

The Aventador SV started to go away when the Aventador S hit the scene. This was the new standard for the Aventador lineup as it soon replaced all Aventador models on offer from Lamborghini. That, of course, means Lamborghini needed a new extreme Aventador model.

In 2018, Lamborghini gave the world just that with the unveiling of the Aventador SVJ. Enthusiasts wouldn’t start taking deliveries of these models until 2019, but before even that, the Aventador SVJ was making records.

Aventador SVJ and SV performance comparison

Both of these Lamborghini models are supercars, and that means they have both been at the largest supercar playground in the world, the Nürburgring. When the Aventador SV hit the track in 2015, it was able to earn a second-place spot in the production car record books with a lap time of 6:59.73.

When the Aventador SVJ hit the track, the Aventador SV had already fallen to 5th on the list with a Huracan Performante being one of the models to knock it down. The Aventador SVJ blew away all competitors with a time of 6:44.97, and it still stands today as the fastest production car to ever record an official lap time at the track.

There are a few subtle differences between these two models. Though the Aventador SVJ has 770 horsepower compared to the 750 horsepower of the SV model, they both share a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 2.8 seconds with a top speed of over 217 mph (350 km/h).

Many of the improvements come down to aerodynamics, four-wheel steering, and lighter-weight materials. Over a 14-second difference at the Nürburgring is huge though and should not be ignored.
