What’s the difference between a Lamborghini Spyder and Roadster?

Lamborghini Spyder vs Roadster

For those unfamiliar with the different types of Lamborghini models, the Roadster and Spyder builds might appear to be nearly identical. And while they’re similar, there are a few distinct differences that set these models apart. Here at Lamborghini, we’re setting the record straight on the difference between the Lamborghini Spyder and Roadster.

Design Differences

With the Spyder style, the goal of the model is to eliminate the roof of the model, without reducing its aerodynamics or torsional stiffness. The design of the spyder features elements that allow it to catch the air that would enter the cabin, and instead pass it over the vehicle for improved drag, even when the top is open.

As for the Roadster, this performance-based model was designed to offer an incredible drive and a refined style. Lamborghini models feature deep, elegant lines that give it a clean-cut and instantly recognizable persona. Another unique feature introduced by the Roadster is its dual color tone. With this unique look, the frame of the windscreen and the area surrounding the rear window up to its “fins” are finished in gloss black for an open appearance and sporty persona.

Technical Differences

In the Lamborghini Spyder, a longitudinal mid-mounted naturally aspirated V10 engine is coupled with a Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) dual-clutch transmission, giving you all the power you could possibly need. It also features new electromechanical power steering designed to adapt to all driving conditions with high efficiency, while not needing the typical amount of maintenance seen in a standard hydraulic power steering. The Spyder offers impressive speeds, reaching a maximum of 201 mph, and going from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

The Roadster is designed to break records. With a 0-60 time just under 3 seconds, the Lamborghini Roadster offers a max speed of 217 mph. It comes equipped with a V12 engine that features a powerful torque curve, plenty of thrust and incredible responsiveness, making it a refined vehicle with plenty of thrills around every turn.

Overall, while the two models have a similar appearance, the Roadster features a slightly more aggressive design and power than the Spyder. That being said, both models offer a luxurious and eye-catching driving experience, so you can’t go wrong with either models.
