Nürburgring lap times are often used as a yardstick for who makes the fastest car. Not only is it a judge of top speed, but it also judges high speed cornering, durability, and other aspects that make a great car. After driving the Nürburgring for just one lap, most drivers feel like they have gone through an entire endurance race. It’s no wonder why the coveted Nürburgring top lap time is important for performance production cars. What car holds the Nürburgring production car record currently? We can tell you!
For production car lap times at Nürburgring as of July 26, 2018, Lamborghini has taken its place at the top of the leaderboards with a lap time of 6:44.97. That’s an average speed of over 115 mph! The car is the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which hasn’t even been officially unveiled yet.
You can get a sense of the ridiculous pace of this machine by watching the onboard view which Lamborghini has graciously provided along with full telemetry. The car sat on street legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and the only modification was the addition of a full roll cage for safety. Outside of the roll cage, this is their new but unreleased street car.

Lamborghini has been tracking cars for production car records at Nürburgring since 1997 with the Lamborghini Diablo. Lamborghini has also tracked the Gallardo, Murcielago, Huracan, and Aventador in numerous incarnations. This isn’t the first time they achieved greatness either.
With the Aventador SV, which is the predecessor to the SVJ, Lamborghini managed to get to second place on the list in May of 2015. This is when you ignore the Radical car company. Radical fielded “production” cars that are only road legal under British single-vehicle approval. This British rule allows many exemptions for extremely low production run vehicles.
Performance numbers for the Aventador SV
Not to rest with second place, Lamborghini went back out to the track with a Huracan Performante and took the top spot in August of 2016 with a time of 6:52. That time didn’t hold long as Porsche took it back with a time of 6:47 in September of 2017. Now the Aventador SVJ sits at the top of the list. It’s even ahead of the Radical race cars that get through because of their technicality.
