Lamborghini Aventador SVJ announcement

What is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ?

The car world is abuzz with news of the new Aventador SVJ. What is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ? It’s a new performance version of the iconic Italian supercar. That’s right, it’s a performance version of a car that already has performance in its marrow. Let’s explore all that we know about this car including what record it broke.

Did the Aventador SVJ break a Nürburgring record?

The Nürburgring is a strenuous track that stretches out over nearly 13 miles and features over 150 turns. For decades, it has been a proving ground for both race cars and production cars alike, and the battle for fastest production car will always occur at this track.

Every year, production cars from manufacturers the world over descend on the Nürburgring in pursuit of the perfect lap and their spot on the leaderboards. Since September 20, 2017, the track record for production cars was held by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS at 6:47.25, but now that has all changed. On July 26, 2018, The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, still in press paint, shattered the previous record with an official time of 6:44.97.

Is the Aventador SVJ the fastest Lamborghini?

Given the results at the Nürburgring, the Aventador SVJ will most certainly be the fastest Lamborghini at least around a track.

We do not have acceleration times or a top speed, but at least the former is destined to be quite impressive given that lap time.

What does SVJ stand for?

Not too long ago we wrote a post about the history of Jota. In that post, we mentioned that the Jota name may be coming back in the form of an Aventador. Our prediction turned out to be correct! SVJ stands for Super Veloce Jota, or simply Super Fast Jota. The word Jota has a complex lineage which we thoroughly explored in that previous post.

When will the Aventador SVJ be unveiled?

Unfortunately, Lamborghini has not unveiled all the specs for the Aventador SVJ yet. We know it has impressive aerodynamics and an improved power-to-weight ratio of 1.98 kg/hp, and we know what it will look like, albeit in press paint, but more info is soon to come. The Lamborghini will reveal the Aventador SVJ in late summer of 2018.
