Lamborghini Huracan rear wheel drive availability

Is there a rear-wheel drive Huracan?

The current Aventador and Huracan both debuted as all-wheel drive supercars. But some have been hoping for a rear-wheel drive option. If you are in that group of rear-wheel drive Lamborghini hopefuls, then you may be wondering: Is there a rear-wheel drive Huracan?

Rear-wheel drive Huracan announcement

Lamborghini is always pushing the envelope and delivering the best supercars in the world to its customers. The Huracan is a beautiful car, filled with power and aggression, but if anyone has been hoping for a rear-wheel drive model to provide a more classic handling profile, then you are in luck.

Lamborghini has decided to produce the Huracan as a rear-wheel drive car alongside the all-wheel drive Huracan models. You may have already heard of the Huracan LP580-2. That 2 on the end of the model represents the number of drive wheels. Your rear-wheel drive Lamborghini dreams may be closer than you think.

When is the Lamborghini Urus release date?

Rear-wheel drive Huracan release date

The rear-wheel drive Huracan Coupe is available at dealerships and to order right now. This is not just a Huracan without the all-wheel drive setup. This car has been completely rebalanced and retuned to get the optimum performance out of its rear-wheel drive setup.

The rear-wheel drive Huracan Spyder on the other hand will be available worldwide in January of 2017 according to a recent Lamborghini press release. If you want top down fun in a new rear-wheel drive Lamborghini then you don’t have long to wait.

Will there be a rear-wheel drive Aventador?

As of right now, this appears unlikely. The Aventador was designed as an all-wheel drive supercar from the beginning. See what Lamborghini had to say about it in an interview late last year.

“The Aventador can only be four-wheel drive because we have so much power and torque to manage; only with four driven wheels are you able to manage this.” – Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini Research and Development Director

So don’t get your hopes up if a rear-wheel drive Aventador was in your dreams. For a car of this caliber, the all-wheel drive benefits are tremendous, and Lamborghini will always do what’s in the best interest of performance and driving experience for its vehicles and its customers.
