What is the Lamborghini Urus?

If you thought Lamborghini only manufactured sports cars, you’re a little behind. It’s been a while since we have seen anything but premium Italian muscle in low, aggressive designs, but the Urus rounds out the Lamborghini lineup in more than one way. The prevalence of SUVs of all sizes in recent years has not gone unnoticed by the designers at Lamborghini. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Lamborghini Urus has taken the spotlight as a super high-performance SUV sporting the bull badge like no vehicle before it has.

What Does Urus Mean?

Lamborghini has long used bullfighting names and terms to name their vehicles. The Urus is no different, but the reference might be one of the most obscure in that naming scheme. The Urus (or Aurochs) historically refers to a predecessor to modern cattle that has been extinct for hundreds of years.

Lamborghini Urus Engine and Drivetrain

The engine of the Lamborghini Urus bucks the trend of the Italian automaker. Where Most Lamborghinis use either naturally aspirated V10 or V12 engines, the Urus has a twin-turbocharged V8 under the hood. This engine is a tweaked version of an engine in a different car made by parent company Audi. The engine displaces 4.0 liters and pairs with an 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission and has all-wheel drive.
